Sexual and relationship violence is NEVER the fault of the victim. Should you or a friend need support in the aftermath of sexual misconduct, relationship violence, and/or stalking, there is help available. A list of resources is provided below with confidential resources noted.

The Office of Gender Equity can provide assistance as needed in accessing on- and off-campus services, such as counseling, health services, mental health services, victim advocacy, legal assistance, and visa and immigration services. The Title IX Coordinator can also help facilitate changes in work situations as well as academic and residential accommodations. Accommodations are afforded if they are reasonably available, regardless of whether an individual who has experienced sexual misconduct, relationship violence, or stalking chooses to participate in the University's investigation and resolution process. - Counseling and Psychological Services

CAPS is staffed by trained counselors who can provide confidential support and assistance to current students. CAPS offers individual and group counseling for those who experience sexual misconduct, relationship violence, and stalking as well as to students who may need support in assisting a friend who is a survivor. There is no cost for counseling services. Counselors are available from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. - Brady Health Center

Brady Health Center is staffed by confidential licensed healthcare providers. The health center offers complete physical exams, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), emergency contraception, and pregnancy tests. The closest hospital that can conduct a SAFE exam is Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland. Students who have been sexually assaulted may go to Brady Health Center to learn more about their options regarding a SAFE exam and a Brady Health staff member can contact the hospital in order to have a forensic nurse ready for the student’s arrival. FCRC offers a 24-hour hotline and emergency shelter for survivors of relationship violence and sexual assault. FCRC also has trained counselors and advocates to assist individuals who may have experienced sexual misconduct, relationship violence, and stalking. They offer advocacy and accompaniment, individual and group counseling, and crisis intervention services. A FCRC advocate is on campus in the University Lane Center one day a week to confidentially speak with members of the University community. - Circuit Court for Allegany County

UPMC Western Maryland Regional Medical Center is the designated hospital in Allegany County with a certified forensic nurse examiner who can perform a SAFE exam for sexual assault survivors. Under Maryland law, the tests and procedures at the hospital are free of charge if treatment is sought within 90 hours of the assault. Additionally, you have the option of reporting the assault to the police or you can remain anonymous and have the evidence held for a time with no identification.
