International Students

Frostburg State University is home to students and scholars from more than 50 countries, making our campus vibrant and eclectic.

International students with F-1, F-2, J-1, J-2, G-series visas and non-citizens with only I-688A or I-688B cards, a notice of approval to apply for Permanent Residence (I-171 or I-464), or only Family Unity Status (Form I-797) are required to show proof of enough resources to meet their expenses while attending Frostburg State University and federal regulations limit financial assistance.

Institutional Grants & Scholarships

These awards are limited and are awarded by the Center for International Education (CIE) upon a student's acceptance to FSU.

Graduate Assistantships

A limited number of Graduate Assistantships are available for students possessing an F-1 visa, a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, and who have been admitted to one of Frostburg State University's graduate programs. Applicants must apply and are chosen by program supervisor based on academic qualification, experience, and professional goals. Awards are given for the academic year only and summer positions are limited. Awards may be renewed if the recipient maintains full-time enrollment, a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and remains in good academic standing. These awards cover the cost of tuition for up to 30 credit hours per academic year and recipients also receive $6,030 in an annual stipend.

International Graduate Fellowships

International Graduate Fellowships are available each academic year for students possessing an F-1 visa, a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, and who have been admitted to one of Frostburg State University's graduate programs. Applicants must apply and are chosen by a review committee based on academic qualification, experience, and professional goals. Awards are given for the academic year only. Awards may be renewed if the recipient maintains full-time enrollment, a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and remains in good academic standing. These awards cover the cost of tuition for up to 30 credit hours per academic year and recipients also receive $6,030 in an annual stipend.

Private Alternative Loans

International students may be eligible to borrow a private alternative loan if they obtain a creditworthy cosigner who is a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. eduPASS also has information on loans for international students.
